Lori Linek, CPhTcvheadshot

I am a lifelong learner of many different things, but especially health matters and medicine. In my late teens and into my twenties, I knew something was wrong with me health-wise but I couldn’t get the answers from my doctors to solve the puzzle. I was constantly exhausted, my cycles were completely haywire, I was recently married but not getting pregnant, and I was gaining weight like crazy. I was put on various medications, including a traditional SSRI antidepressant, and I still wasn’t feeling well. I was advised to go to Weight Watchers to lose weight, but instead I gained. What the heck was going on?? I spent the entire summer of 1988 in the University of California medical library (this was in the days before the Internet!) doing research to get clues to what might be the problem. I discovered I had Stein-Leventhal Syndrome, now known as PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome). It took me eleven years to get a physician to confirm what I had already diagnosed. In 1999, an endocrinologist in Australia, where I was living at the time, finally agreed with my own assessment and began me on metformin therapy for PCOS. At least I knew I wasn’t crazy. There was an answer, and hope…

I became a certified pharmacy technician in 2007 to further my education and knowledge about pharmacology and to supplement my other studies in biology and biochemistry at the university level. While I believe there is a place for prescriptions medications, I do not subscribe to the “one script fits all” philosophy. We are all different beings and we are not all created equal in that sense. We need to become our own advocates for our healthcare and try natural healing remedies to help CURE the root causes of our ailments; not just cover them up with pharmaceutical bandaids.

My goal is to empower each of you with knowledge and information you can take to your doctors to get the healthcare you deserve. I am not a physician and therefore cannot offer specific advice. I encourage everyone to continue your own research and learn all you can about your chosen topic. There is a wealth of information available. Find it! Use it!

Helping you help your health,

Lori
